New England Voices Journal
Purple World Publishing produces a biannual journal of the arts for writers and artists from all of the New England states. The journal features fiction, creative non-fiction, poetry, and visual arts. Journal submissions are run as a contest in four arenas: fiction, creative non-fiction, poetry, and visual arts.
Each year, the spring issue will be dedicated to new voices. Submissions will be open to anyone who has not yet been published in a national magazine or journal.
The winter issue will be open to all New England writers and artists.
Reading periods:
Spring Issue - Submissions accepted from October through January (New Voices)

Please review all of the standard submission guidelines and follow them accordingly.
For the New England Voices Journal, we will accept fiction and creative non-fiction up to 5000 words, up to 5 poems (not to exceed 10 pages total), or up to 3 high-resolution images of artwork in JPG format.
Artwork should be submitted on CD or may be referred to with a URL in the cover letter. Please be sure the URL works as we will not try to track down incorrect or missing links, and will not contact you to fix it. CD's will be returned if a SASE envelope, with sufficient postage, is included for such purposes.
Submission Fee:
A submission fee of $15 must accompany your submission.

Note that it is perfectly acceptable to submit to the generic "editor" as our editors often change. Please do not waste your time trying to find a specific editor name. If you feel you must use a specific name, please use the managing editor/publisher's name, Karen Desrosiers, but don't forget to write what you are submitting to.
We are not accepting electronic submissions at this time.
Please allow 2-4 months for a response to your submission.
Simultaneous submissions are accepted. Please indicate such in your cover letter and notify us immediately, via email, if your piece has been picked up by another publisher in the meantime.
Awards:
First place in fiction and non-fiction will receive $200 each. First place in poetry and visual arts will receive $100 each. All winners will also get publication in the New England Voices Journal, and will receive 2 copies of the volume their work appears in.
All other submission may be considered for publication at the regular author/artist fees outlined below.
If Your Piece is Accepted:
We will notify you if we wish to accept your work. If it is still available for publication, we will send you a Publisher's Agreement with the terms under which your work will be published. Once you receive the agreement, it must be returned with your original signature, within 14 days. Upon acceptance of the Publisher's Agreement, PWP will pay you $20 per poem or art image, or $50 for fiction and creative non-fiction (except contest winners, who will be paid as outlined above). You will also receive 2 contributor copies of the journal in which your work appears. Please note that neither the terms of the agreement, nor the pay, are negotiable.
